You Will Not Get Your ‘Fortnite: Battle Royale’ iOS Invite Code Today
If you’re like me, you’ve been furiously refreshing your email after signing up for Fortnite on iOS in order to try and find your code to download the mobile version. But I’m here to tell you to stop doing that, for today at least.
Codes for Fortnite: Battle Royale on iOS will not be going out today. I spoke with Epic Creative Director Donald Mustard who told me that the initial codes will be going out later this week instead. I don’t know how many codes will be going out at once, but clearly the interest is enormous, given that as I write this, Epic’s sign-up page has crashed from too many people trying to get to it.
Epic has previously said that if you don’t get a code in the initial wave of invites, to stay tuned, as they’ll be giving out more codes in the upcoming months. This is going to be a lengthy process, so if you don’t get a code right away, never fear, one is bound to come eventually. My guess is that Epic, master of doing things incredibly quickly, is going to ramp up the mobile version fast, so it might be days or weeks rather than months in the end.
Also keep in mind that when you get your code, you’ll get a couple extra to invite your friends. I’m guessing enough for a full squad, so one invite is going to be probably four invites, in reality. I’m also guessing that Epic may end up handing out invite codes to streamers and content creators as usually happens with this sort of thing, so perhaps you might be able to secure yourself an early one that way. I might even do a giveaway myself with my extra codes, when they arrive.
The thing I am most curious about regarding all this is how the game is going to control using the touchscreen, given how many complex tasks you have to do quickly in Fortnite, and not only that, but also how mobile players can hope to be competitive with PC and console players due to cross play. But any version of Fortnite on the go is better than no version, as I’m sure most players would agree.
I also asked Mustard how Epic does all this so quickly, the console and mobile versions, updates, everything.
“It’s just a really amazing team, engine, company,” he said. “We realize the opportunity we’ve got, and we are all in on making Fortnite as joyful and delightful as possible for everyone playing it. We want to rewrite the rules of what a game can be.”
Keep checking your email for your codes later this week. Probably not today or tomorrow, but the first ones will be going out soon enough.
